O I made this tonight with some provisions using hamburger, beefiness broth and green beans and carrots because i did non have lamb or peas.Used the directions and all other ingredients. It was fabled and I deal with a 14 twelvemonth sometime critic who asked for seconds, this solitary immediately put this into my favorites recipe box. Thanks John, I enjoy your light hearted sense of humor while cooking, cheers for the flavor of food

I made this last nighttime also using footing beef and it received rave reviews at dinner. I did use beef goop for the liquid since I had to utilise basis beef. I thoroughly enjoyed information technology, which is unusual for me. Also, married man, adult son, and teenage daughter ate it happily-no complaints from anyone! Hurray!! Chef John, I enjoyed watching you prepare it, that helps me when I am trying something for the first fourth dimension.

Omg de-lish. Eyeballed ingredents (every bit nosotros irish gaelic exercise) and it came out perfect. Dubliner cheese works really well westward the potatoes. Perfect alternative for those who dont like corned beef.

I've never had a cottage pie that I liked, they're e'er also bland, only fabricated this one this evening on a whim, just considering CJ hardly ever disappoints. I used footing beefiness and mixed veg, omitting rosemary and cinnamon, as they seemed more than suited to lamb than beef. Later on tasting the beef mix, I wanted to heave the beefy flavor, then added two teaspoons beefiness base. Perfect flavor! I was worried that the beef mix was besides thick, just after baking it was merely right. I might add more than cheese to the potatoes side by side fourth dimension, or even toss some in with the beef. The bones of this recipe are great, producing a perfect pie that holds together but isn't dry out at all. It could be easily adapted to other cuisines, using Mexican spices and topping with cornbread, or using soy sauce, Hoisin sauce and wasabi mashed potatoes for Asian flair. Finally, a really, actually skilful gluten-gratis casserole! Thanks, Chef. And thanks for a new pull a fast one on to remove oil from ground meat. I'll never try to drain hot oil over again!
03/15/2014
This recipe is wonderful. I have no idea how anyone could call information technology bland - it is a delightful alloy of amazing flavors. Everyone absolutely loved it! I changed nothing except I had to substitute half a green pepper for half of the onion because I discovered that I only had half an onion in my fridge. I think it's probably of import to exist patient when cooking the ground lamb to allow the liquid to evaporate (run into the video). The murphy topping was to die for - the Dubliner cheese (as opposed to a regular cheddar) added an astonishing distinctive flavor. If you use another meat and a different cheese, information technology'due south probably notwithstanding really good, just those changes would plow this recipe into something else completely.
03/22/2012
ugh! way too greasy for my family unit. I would drain the meat before adding the flour side by side fourth dimension. My family doesn't capeesh intense flavors, and so I volition cut downwardly on all the spices and use a more mild cheddar in the potatoes.
05/01/2012
Great Recipe. I made it exactly to recipe the first time as I e'er exercise and saved some customization to my tastes afterwards establishing a baseline. For those of you who fabricated it with beefiness y'all ought to try Shepherds pie sometime.
03/20/2012
Excellent! This is truly the traditional shepherds pie. Every bit the allrecipes.com video on this states…Shepherds raised sheep not cow, hence the use of lamb and not beef and the name "Shepherds Pie". I made this exactly as written and it was delicious. I did make a mushroom gravy to become on peak. A great i dish meal; for a crowd, or dinner for ii with plenty of leftovers!
03/nineteen/2013
This is one of the best Shepard's Pie's I've had in a long time!! Really liked that yous could taste the cinnamon. I likewise added chopped celery and fresh carrots(annotation exist sure to either cut fresh carrots really small or cook them before hand).I also suggest draining some of the grease from the pan afterward browning the meat. I think my favorite part of this recipe is the Dubliner cheese, it made the potatoes really unique!! Made this for St. Patrick's Mean solar day, and I volition definately make information technology again, though my husband told me it amend not be a whole yr earlier we have it for dinner once again!! THANK You FOR SHARING!!
10/05/2013
Followed all but used Guinness instead of water. Came out amazing. Got fresh Lamb from the local Butcher. I call back I'm in dear with Chef John.....
03/16/2012
I had to use ground cow meat (not lamb, cowboy pie? Ha!) But it was delicious whatsoever way. Perfect recipe, and Chef John is amaizing, great teacher and makes cooking and enjoyable feel. Sorry for my poor English!.
xi/25/2014
I honey lamb and honey this recipe. Information technology makes A LOT though so make sure you take a oversupply to feed! It's very filling.
03/19/2014
Lamb is too expensive, we don't like mutton, then nosotros use beef. With these changes the Shepards Pie is a real hit in our house. I utilize this dish for pot-luck dinners a lot, and the dish comes home empty every time. I think that says more than annihilation else. Brand information technology your fashion and savour. That'southward what it really is.
03/xviii/2012
I fabricated this for St Pattys and overall it was pretty tasty. I used i pound of ground beef and one pound of ground lamb. I would suggest cut the cinnamon as it really took over the dish I thought especially with the inherent nuttiness of the lamb. Despite all of the ingredients i establish it a little bland and may go with some cumin adjacent time to requite it something extra but overall it was pretty easy to make and the guests I had over went back for seconds.
03/13/2017
My Mom was 1st generation hither from Ireland. I grew up eating Shepherd's Pie. Did not always think that I would detect a recipe every bit skilful equally I was use to. I saw this with the Dubliners cheese in the mashed potatoes and decided to try it. The Only commutation I made was using homemade meat broth in place of water as liquid. It was Spectacular!!! Made me wonder if Chef John had a fleck of Irish gaelic in him. Definitely added to recipe box. Additional note information technology would be overnice if people rated the actual recipes on this site. Practise not brand several alterations and so give a poor rating because you practice non like what you created. Write your ain recipe and permit us rate what you really made.
02/xv/2013
Wow! This is cracking! Only sub was craven goop for water and I went long on the Dubliner cheese too. For onions I similar to apply Shallots every bit i honey the flavor. Very nicely done, Chef John! All who tried it loved it.
03/17/2012
I made this with the suggested ground lamb, information technology came out great. Information technology had alot of flavor everyone in the family loved information technology. I have fabricated Shepherds Pie before only this one by far is one of the all-time.
07/22/2014
I halved the recipe as it's merely the 2 of u.s.a., just leftovers would have been very welcome! As a halfer, I used three cloves of garlic, cuz why not, a little extra ketchup, and had some mint on hand and so chopped a bit of that in. It was so flavorful, I can't imagine how others think it is bland...flavor to taste!!! I used lamb, not l/50 beef/lamb, or turkey, just go ahead and attempt it with the main ingredient-it is worth it! I did drain a bit of fat off after the browning, and used chicken broth instead of water-but that's it!! You are all in for a existent treat with this one!
03/xix/2014
Delicious! I made it exactly like Chef John did the first time. Second time, I wanted to substitute a stout beer for the water. It intensified the flavors. Yum! The third time, I used Substitute "Low Carb Mashed Cauliflower" for the mashed potato crust. Excellent!
03/17/2014
Awesome. I used basis beef, beef broth instead of water, and old cheddar instead of dubliner cheese. Tin't look to try with lamb!
07/18/2013
I make this oft, and I employ ground moose. Information technology is past far the best shepherd'south pie I've ever had, and it is so good the side by side day for lunch...bold my husband doesn't swallow it all!
ten/22/2012
Wonderful wonderful!!!!!! My daughter just loved this recipe. Added more cheese and beautiful meal.
03/18/2015
Wow! What a great season! The only modify I made is that I used ground beef instead of lamb. I was a little humble about the different seasonings coming together, but it was definitely a flavor I wouldn't change! I would besides advise using Dubliner® cheese and not an American cheddar...information technology really does make a difference!
12/04/2012
Cayenne pepper is mentioned in the directions, but not in the ingredients list. How much should I add? To Soccerwidow23, the video talks about draining the meat before adding the flour.
03/26/2015
Works great with Ground beef in place of lamb. Likewise, instead of adding water to the ground beef mixture, I added a 15 oz. can of beef broth and omitted the salt. Yummy!
04/07/2012
This came out exceptional - I did tweak a little. More rosemary and Garlic in the potato's. I also braised some Lamb tips ( Trader Joe's ) with a little flour and tossed them in and cut back a fiddling on the ground lamb. It gave you Lamb chucks every at present and and then. I must praise the potatoes with the Cream cheese and Cheddar Cheese, nice touch on indeed gave information technology a real nice texture and they browned so nicely. Good Show !!
03/13/2014
Made this with lean ground beef and added a bit of stout beer to the gravy. Nosotros enjoyed it very much!
03/eighteen/2015
swell for hungry boys!
01/eighteen/2014
This was across practiced! Made with beefiness and beef broth just changed nothing else. Friends who are beyond picky ate it and said several times how good it was. This volition get in my permanent recipe book. Only changes I wil brand when using beef will be to bleed grease subsequently browning beef, delete the cinnamon and use 1 tsp of rosemary but everything else is just perfect.
11/26/2012
This was a hit with my family unit. We used the basis lamb. I am non a cheese eater and then nosotros made it without the cheese, but a piddling actress milk and butter in the potatoes. My husband and daughter then mixed in cheese later on it was washed. I am thrilled to observe a recipe I like. I have always loved shepherd's pie.
03/fifteen/2015
I didn't find the flavors spectacular. There are a lot of ingredients and not sure this was worth the piece of work. Husband loved it, though.
11/14/2014
I intended to brand this recipe exactly as directed until I got to the grocery store and realized lamb is $nine.99 a pound and this calls for two pounds. [Beware!] Since there are two of the states, I cut the entire recipe in half. My grocery (Meijer) doesn't behave frozen peas and carrots, so I had to buy a handbag of each. [Beware!] My grocery also doesn't carry the cheese called for in this recipe, so I used the only "Irish" cheese I could discover which was anile cheddar. [Beware] I don't take time to shop at multiple groceries or specialty stores. You'd recollect I would've said "heck with it" at this indicate, just I proceeded. As I said, I fabricated the recipe EXACTLY every bit directed (except I cut it in half). Information technology was simply okay. A lot of work for an "okay" recipe. I would suggest cutting out the cayenne pepper--it's not needed and seems to throw the flavor contour off. I might also utilise beef broth instead of h2o to give the gravy a lilliputian more flavor. That's my 2 cents. Sorry, Chef John. Usually I enjoy your recipes.
02/17/2014
Delish! Thanks Chef John for a delicious recipe, we loved information technology! I used basis turkey and instead of carrots I used organic frozen butternut squash and organic frozen sweet potatoes with the peas. Yum! All the flavors went together very nicely and I will make this over again and again.
03/17/2015
Really skilful! Husband & I love lamb so this was a fun style to celebrate St. Paddy'southward Day, having something new to try. The cayenne gave this dish a nice kick. Looking forward to sharing this with others next year.
03/21/2015
My kickoff attempt at homemade Shepherd's Pie was a success! I replaced half the lamb with beefiness (I was lucky to observe lamb as I alive in the Southwest and is not usually stocked, my luck may be due to the fact I bought information technology St. Patrick's day weekend). I too spiced information technology only using salt and pepper and used beef goop instead of water for a richer gravy. I enjoyed mine with a very cold Guiness! I will brand this again! Maybe even as a new tradition for St. Paddy's!
03/17/2013
Delicious! I did do a few things differently to suite my family'south tastes...On a side note, I only made a 1/2 batch of this, as a full recipe would've been too much. Well, the grocery shop but had a petty over 1/2# of lamb (go effigy), and so I used ground sirloin for the remainder of the meat chosen for. I omitted the cinnamon and rosemary, and added a fleck more ketchup and a few shakes of worchestershire sauce. This was so practiced, that even a few pickier eaters loved information technology. I will def be using this recipe again! Thank you for sharing. :)
03/17/2015
Look no further for an authentic tasting Shepherd's pie! I lived in Ireland for a yr. Although Shepherd'due south pie is non regularly served in restaurants, it is more of a "family" dish (recollect American meatloaf or tuna casserole). Fabricated this today with half lamb half beef. Left out the rosemary (glad I did), and subbed cut green beans (pre-cooked to soften) instead of peas considering my husband doesn't like peas. Otherwise pretty much followed exactly. The cinnamon is key! The unabridged family loved it! Will definitely make again!
09/16/2012
OMG!!! Incredible....(my beginning review) only had 1 lbs of lamb so added extra vegetables- including sauteed crimini mushrooms, love garlic added more. Perfect as is with spices! Dubliner cheese mad a HUGE departure. Just Nifty!
09/15/2012
This is ABSOLUTELY Fabulous!!!
ten/31/2012
This is wonderful! I cooked the lamb separately so I could bleed off the fat. Went a piddling heavier on the rosemary and cinnamon, and added sauteed mushrooms along with the veggies. Like other reviewers, I didn't know how much cayenne to add, and then I made information technology a small sprinkle. It'due south pretty with a light sprinkle of chives and paprika as garnishes. I made this the solar day before and permit the flavors blend overnight. It was perfect!
09/23/2012
I made this recipe back in March. I know, I know! It's the end of September!! It's almost October. It starts to get dank in WNY. This is the time of twelvemonth where I look for meals to make in the oven. This way I can take the arctic off of the house without turning on the furnace. Anyway ... I Dear this!!! I've never had it earlier. And so, I didn't alter much. I used mixed frozen veggies, regular ole potatoes, rosemary from my cupboard and regular precipitous cheddar because that's what I had on hand. Although I love Irish cheese, it just wasn't handy. The only thing I added was a dash (a whack on the back of the jar type dash) of back-scratch. For some reason, for me, curry goes with lamb. My husband and I loved it!!! My kids are older and are starting to capeesh the "stronger" flavored foods such as lamb. They liked information technology as well. I dunno if they would accept liked it ten years ago. Only, I'm living in the at present and will definitely go far once again.
01/twenty/2013
I Honey lamb and cannot digest any cow products (meat or dairy). I have always used lamb equally my mum was English and fabricated shepherd'southward pie that way. This evening I didn't have any potatoes so I used sugariness potatoes (yams) & carrots but notwithstanding followed Chef John's recipe. Information technology was amazing!!!
03/17/2015
We made it tonight for St Patrick's Day. Lamb is expensive! I will make it over again but I'll probably utilize ground pork. The meat mixture is tasty and a little sweet. I've never cooked with rutabagas before. They turned such a lovely yellow. The colors were beautiful. The potato topping was sharp and rich. Altogether, yummy! Changing out the meat would make information technology affordable for well-nigh budgets.
03/xvi/2015
I made this 3 times. information technology is and so yummy!
04/04/2014
I tried this recipe with ground beef and followed the recipe every bit stated higher up. The only problem was that it was too liquidy. I think maybe because beefiness renders more fat than lamb?? Anyhow, it was still succulent! Adjacent fourth dimension I arrive, I will drain the beef earlier calculation the balance of the ingredients.
03/17/2013
It was ok, not nifty. Will make again with the following changes: basis beef, beef stock instead of water, tomato sauce instead of ketchup, no cinnamon, less rosemary. More cheese inside of potatoes and lots on top earlier baking.
08/29/2014
AMAZING!! get-go time making shepherd's pie for my irish married man and it was a hit! i volition definately brand this over again, maybe just use a little less cinnamon next fourth dimension. the cinnamon gives a corking different flavor- like a secret ingredient- merely it was a little as well much for us
12/12/2014
I fabricated this tonight and the family lived it! Even the 2 year old asked more than. I will made this once again. I added a small tub of ricotta cheese to the mashed potatoes made them fifty-fifty creamier.
03/19/2013
This was succulent! Considering ground lamb was very expensive, I used one pound of ground lamb and one pound of basis beefiness (instead of two pounds of lamb). Next time, I will non add and so much water to the meat mixture because it was a petty "soupy." Too, since I adde dth ewhole cake of Dubliner cheese (shredded), the potatoes were a chip thick to spread, so I would add more than milk. But, overall, easy to make and very tasty!
11/10/2014
Incredible! I didn't accept lamb so used lean ground beef and information technology was perfect. My husband took one sense of taste and mumbled 'keeper' . Now THAT is a compliment! I can't imagine using instant mashed, the Yukon golden potatoes are the only way to go. Thank you then much! I've been looking for something new to put in the rotation and I don't demand to expect whatever further.
03/17/2013
Delicious! I watched the video and then fabricated the recipe. I used basis turkey and low sodium chicken stock for the liquid. The rosemary went very well with the turkey. I forgot to add the ketchup, but I don't feel like it was missed. I but had actress old white cheddar, but that worked too. Definitely a keeper! I will attempt information technology with the lamb i twenty-four hours when I take it.
03/14/2015
This is the kickoff shepherd'southward pie I've ever made and this recipe was followed almost to the letter. The filling was made as directed except I used beef instead of lamb and beef broth instead of h2o. It seemed to need more flavor (I honey season!) and information technology was a little too runny. Mayhap I could add more than ketchup, less broth, and some other spices to play effectually with the flavors side by side time. For the mashed potatoes, I used red potatoes. They were boiled with garlic and salt. I melted two TBSP butter and 3 oz of cream cheese together, calculation cashew milk to thin out a bit while still leaving information technology thick and creamy. Potatoes and flossy sauce were blended in a mixer. Cayenne pepper was added along with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Forgot to add together the cheese before starting to spread on top of the filling...oops! Volition definitely add together that next time! I will exist playing around with the filling flavors, but it's a get-go.
03/19/2014
It's delicious!
11/20/2012
So delicious! I love shepherd's pie, and specially loved the homemade gravy in this ane.. and the potatoes. Perfect and yummy. Information technology was even bang-up for leftovers.
07/12/2014
Though I liked information technology and information technology was fun to make and put all the ingredients together, information technology but didn't come up to the flavor I was expecting. I used 1# basis lamb and 1# basis beef. Otherwise followed the recipe as written. For u.s.a. it was good, merely not great. Maybe it was in the Irish Cheese...nosotros just did not intendance for it and seemed to give the potatoes an odd taste. Only, that is purely our tastebuds.
03/20/2013
I made this for St. Pattys day and served it to people who take never had lamb. Everyone LOVED it! My hubby and I finished it for dinner final night and it was but equally practiced. This will be a favorite in my family unit from now on. Absolutely fabulous!!!
01/26/2014
Had to brand some revisions as my market place did not have Dubliner cheese or lamb. Used footing round and brick cheese, and used beef broth instead of just water. It was wonderful! Next time I will attempt some other market and try half lamb and half beef.
01/17/2015
By mistake I bought footing lamb instead of beefiness-but information technology wasn't a mistake making this recipe!!! Oh then good !!! And so easy to make...squeamish on a cold Saturday nighttime eating in front of our fireplace! Endeavor it!
10/27/2014
Really, really, actually good! I subbed the lamb out for ground Italian sausage and oh human, yum! The potatoes alone are to die for and reminded me of the inside of a pierogie. It was a big hit in our household and I'll definitely be making information technology again!
01/05/2013
Fabricated this dish 4 fourth dimension and every one loved information technology Will exist making information technology a lot more It'south a large hit
01/04/2013
Whole family liked this even though I used 2.5lbs venison (no need to worry almost fat!). I might cut dorsum a bit on the cinnamon, and i used fresh carrots which I cooked westward/ onion and meat. Likewise used abrupt yellowish cheddar (dubliner would def exist meliorate tho), and leftover mashed potatoes since i had it on-hand; I added cheese and cayenne to them, no foam cheese or butter due to high level of whipping cream and butter already present. A bit soupier than i would of liked, simply mayhap that was me not timing the thickening time. Hint: if your pan looks full like mine was, put a curlicue pan under information technology..it will bubble over. I will definitely make again!
11/16/2014
So good ! Added a chip of Worcestershire to meat.
03/21/2014
But so so. Not much flavor imo.
03/08/2015
Style too much water which brand it really soupy. Adjacent time I merely not follow this to the t
08/26/2014
I idea the meat was a chip bland & greasy. I will make this again, adjacent time I will heavy up on the seasoning and drain the meat prior to adding the water.
06/16/2014
I followed the recipe as directed but added some Montreal seasoning, ketchup and pepper later on tasting information technology. Too bland, and I am not sure why I can't discover a pie recipe with layers of flavor. I am not sure how to fix this, maybe use beef broth instead of water? I actually liked the murphy topping. koriander
04/07/2013
In a discussion....AMAZING! my family unit loved this pie. I will make it once again and again and again!
04/09/2012
I had leftover leg of lamb from easter dinner. So I diced that upwards. The other thing i inverse was calculation the "sparse mushroom gravy leftovers" to the quantity of water. Even so added all the spices called for in the recipe. "This was a wonderful meal". Volition make once again with either ground beefiness or lamb.
03/13/2014
it was excellent, everybody loved information technology, will make it once more this st. patty's solar day.
09/08/2016
I was had friends over for dinner a couple of weeks ago and wanted a one dish meal, that I could partially ready a fleck ahead of fourth dimension (the meat mixture), so I could spend fourth dimension with company instead of the kitchen. I followed Chef John's recipe with but some minor changes, using frozen corn and carrots, rice flour as a thickener (as one guest was gluten intolerant), and substituting one/2 the water with goop. I was able to become the meat portion of the recipe done, and start the potatoes simply when folks arrived. In addition to the Irish gaelic cheddar, butter, and cream cheese, I likewise added a clove of minced garlic simmered in ane/ii cup of light cream to the potatoes. This recipe is easy, delicious, and everyone loved information technology!
04/16/2016
Excellent! This makes a delicious and huge Shepherds Pie. Chef John always leads! I had 2 pounds ground lamb from my supermarket (but asked the butcher) and went totally Irish with Irish butter, Irish cheese, Irish gaelic Guinness beer instead of h2o for an amazing consequence Wow!!
09/03/2016
I love Dubliner sliced with crackers or just by itself w/ a glass of wine. Putting it into the potatoes knocked this recipe outta the ball park! This is the Shepherd's Pie recipe I've been looking for. I only fabricated a 1/2 recipe for ii people. The cinnamon is a must! I followed the recipe using the same ingredients, with minor changes because I had to: used small cut up leftover leg of lamb from terminal dark's dinner, cutting the rosemary to 1/ii tsp (all I had) and used well-nigh 1/2 tsp of ground thyme; using the fresh diced carrots, I threw them into the potato boiling water to cook for about 5 minutes so mixed them in with the frozen peas, etc. - I didn't take frozen carrots and this worked peachy. All in all v+ stars. This has the flavors I've been searching for in Shepherd'southward Pie - my husband's favorite! I'll bump up the spices I was short on next time, simply probablly not by much. Thanks, Chef!
10/01/2013
Nice change from the Corned Beefiness & Cabbage for traditional St Patty's day :)
01/27/2015
Made this recipe exactly as written the first time and thought it was delicious. Very flavorful and filling. The second time I made it, I adapted it only a little for my sense of taste and it was fifty-fifty better (for me). Instead of ketchup I used Sriracha sauce, and used Guinness for half of the water. Definitely in my rotation, but I will try information technology with other meats as the lamb was expensive. I'chiliad also going to add some garlic to the mashed potatoes; helps keep the vampires away.
10/18/2012
Was really excited to endeavour this, but ended up being very disapointed. Fabricated exactly equally recipe stated but when I tasted it earlier calculation the potatoes it had no real flavor. Ended up adding more ketchup, worcestershire, balsamic vinegar and spices to achieve a satisfying issue. I also felt that the cream cheese made the potatoes a piddling rubbery in texture. Estimate it's not bad as a starting point.
03/27/2012
This recipe was devine! I call back the cinnamon and the fresh rosemary are what make this dish a stand-out. I used ground buffalo considering that's what I had in the freezer, only adjacent time I'll endeavor the lamb. The Irish cheese, cream cheese and egg yolk brand the topping really special and alllow for that lovely browning of the peak of the pie.
11/11/2014
My husband said this was the best shepherds pie I made so far! I used basis beefiness and cheddar cheese and added some corn, otherwise I followed the recipe.
04/eleven/2016
This was great! We raise sheep and needed to be more creative with how we eat information technology. (My husband LOVES lamb, I think its OK, non a fan of the gamey taste) This was and then good and non gamey with all the other ingredients. I will make it over again!
05/27/2015
When the recipe is followed exactly, the meat mixture is actually pretty mild tasting, and lacking flavor. We fixed it upwardly by doubling the seasoning, adding chicken goop and every bit a terminal ditch effort to boost the flavour, my fellow dropped a back-scratch cube into information technology. Equally for the potatoes, I LOVED the cayenne pepper in it, giving them a surprise kicking! I would brand this again, only with my own modifications. also I would double the mashed potatoes, since they provided a very thin layer.
xi/02/2014
And so so very proficient. I used milk instead of h2o. And I added 1tsp of beefiness broth concentrate equally some had recommended. I also used hamburger and omitted the cinnamon. This was a hit with my husband and the kids. Will definitely be making this agai
03/17/2013
The whole pan was gone in a day! I actually didn't gustation much of the cinnamon then perhaps a compression more of that next time. I mixed the cream cheese and the Dubliner cheese in with the potatoes but I think next time instead of mixing the Dubliner in, I will shred it fresh and raw on the top when information technology comes out of the oven. I think that volition requite it more than of a kicking with the cheese.
03/xv/2014
Banal!!!!
03/22/2015
I made this recipe today and completely fell in love with information technology. I followed the comments and used beef broth instead of h2o. I actually used a pound of ground chicken and ground beefiness since my husband actually used the second pound of ground beef. Information technology was and so succulent that I ate more than than I should take. I will definitely exist making this again!
09/x/2014
I halved the recipe and used basis beefiness instead of lamb. I'chiliad certain information technology's even better with the lamb. My husband, who is a picky eater, really enjoyed this dish. It's a keeper!
03/12/2014
This is a fantastic recipe! Very versatile, piece of cake to make, and makes a peachy meal! Thanks, Chef John!
03/17/2012
This recipe was phenomenal! i used basis beef because I don't swallow babies and 2c. craven broth in place of the water. It came out exactly like the video. The Dubliner cheese really makes it. YUUUUM!
03/20/2012
This is pretty good - I enjoyed making information technology, just it wasn't loved past my husband. That might be because it was lamb, and I by and large make Shepherds' pie with ground beef. Yet, I enjoyed it I only didn't think it was spectacular.
01/28/2014
Every 1 liked it & it served all vii of us. Took longer to prepare and so we thought it would so volition let more fourth dimension in future. No changes on the potatoes simply with the meat we used hamburger seasoned with the onions, salt, pepper, 21 season, katsup & garlic & used beef broth. Changed the veggies to dark-green beans & corn. January 2014

My only substitutions from the recipe which I find admittedly vivid, the recipe not bragging near my substitutions??, were tomato plant paste Doppio instead of ketchup and sour foam instead of foam cheese to add together into the mashed potatoes – that's my personal mashed potatoes recipe matter. I as well added some chives into the mashed potatoes cause Thats how my grandma taught me to make them?. This is a corking recipe, admittedly authentic and a real crowdpleaser. five stars for sure?

OH my gosh this was and so good. I actually split the recipe into two different ones. I have a stride girl that doesn't swallow red meat. For hers I used turkey and added a bit more butter. For ours I spit it between footing lamb and turkey. It was so good.

This was an first-class recipe for my offset fourth dimension traditional irish dish. Since my fiancee is half Irish I idea it would exist a practiced thought to make an irish dish for St Patrick's Mean solar day in honor of his heritage and in remembrance of his veteran begetter. I added mushrooms for a fiddling twist, used lamb shank chunks instead of basis lamb and instead of peas and carrots...I used mixed vegetables. Delightful dish that we enjoyed on our candlelit romantic dinner.

Nifty recipe and FINALLY a shepherd's pie with lamb. I've never seen a shepherd herding cows. It's 9:30 in the morning still this recipe made me drool. I skipped the cream cheese, at that place's enough fat in the potatoes without it and the taste doesn't endure without information technology either.

This is a great recipe. I made a few changes. I only had i pound of lamb on hand, so I reduced the other ingredients slightly. For the meat mixture, I added ½ teaspoon of smoked paprika to the regular paprika, and I used fresh carrots and frozen peas. I also added some chopped canned tomatoes, added some worcestershire sauce, and replaced the water with homemade stock. For the mashed potatoes, the just change I made was using garlic chive cream cheese, which was the just one I had left. I loved the add-on of the cinnamon, information technology took the flavour to a whole new level. I've tried many shepherd's pie recipes, and this volition be the one I'll stick with from at present on. Fifty-fifty my son, who ordinarily is non crazy nigh shepherd's pie, devoured this one.

Followed this recipe to a "t." Think it was the cinnamon that wrecked it for u.s.. Plus, information technology needed something else to make the flavors pop. If I ever attempt to make this recipe again, I'd utilise beefiness broth and stewed tomatoes instead of water. Maybe add some parsley, thyme, and oregano to the meat mixture. Very disappointed in this recipe, which is unusual. Chef John rarely fails to please the taste buds with his recipes. This i, however, simply did not laissez passer the examination.

I only fabricated this recipe for a St. Patrick's Day party and it got rave reviews! Honestly this was the all-time Shepherd's Pie I accept always eaten. I followed the directions nearly exactly. My local grocer did not have basis lamb then I used footing beefiness instead and followed the rest of the recipe every bit written and it was succulent! The entire tray was eaten in only a few minutes, thanks Chef John this is a keeper!

I made this concluding night using beef which was all I had in my refrigerator. It turned out then nifty! My hubby loved it and took the leftovers to work for his lunch. it really is easy to follow and the meat mixture is and then fragrant and tasty I really loved it. I added a dash of chili powder to the meat mixture just to requite it some bite and what can I say - they gobbled it all upward!
